      When you move to Kingman you'll likely have questions; we've collected answers to ones most frequently asked.  Some have to do with how you connect utilities and some are about City codes.

Welcome to Kingman.  We love living here and feel sure you will, too.
 
Light & Water: The City has it's own generating plant and its own springs and wells for water. The water and light bills are payable to the City Office and must be paid in full by the 10th of each month.  The deposit you have made, if any, for your water and light bills will be refunded to you when you move from Kingman or buy your own home in Kingman.
 
If you have any problems related to the water, light, or sewer call 532-3111 which is the City Building.  After office hours, during weekends, and holidays call the Police Department 532-3138 and the dispatcher will contact the person on call.
 
All basements or cellars with plumbing fixtures connected to the Sanitary sewer line shall be provided with a back-water trap or gate valve.  Property damage resulting from backup sewage is the householder's responsibility.
 
Gas Service: Contact the Kansas Gas Service, PO Box 758000, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8000.  Telephone 1-800-794-4780 24 hrs service.
 
Cable Television: Cox Cable Television.  Call 1-800-794-3364.
 
Telephone: Local phone service is AT&T.  Call 1-800-288-2020.
 
Garbage and/or Trash Pickup: Contact Waste Connections of Kansas.  Telephone 1-800-388-5902.  They can inform you where to place your refuse, the type, number and size of containers allowed, the charge for this service, and the day scheduled for pickup in your area.
 
Drivers License Exam Station: Kingman County Courthouse, 130 N. Spruce Street, Kingman, 532_5080.  Open Wednesdays & Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 
Voter Registration: A city resident 18 or older may register at City Hall or the Kingman County Courthouse.
 
Building Permits: No building or any structure shall commence before obtaining a building permit from the City Inspector.  Also Electric, Plumbing, and Gas permits are needed. Contractors must be present at the time of any inspection.
 
Dogs: Do you have one?  You must purchase a current dog tag within 30 days after you move to the City of Kingman.  A rabies certificate dated within the past year is required to purchase the tag.  All dogs must be confined in some manner and at no time allowed to run loose within the City limits.  Some dogs are prohibited (as defined by City ordinance).
 
Burning Of Trash: Prohibited within the City of Kingman without a permit.  You may secure a burning permit at the City Building at 324 N. Main. St.  No burning is allowed on Mondays.
 
Abandoned Vehicles: It is unlawful to park, store, leave, or permit the parking, storing, or leaving of any motor vehicle of any kind which is wrecked, junked, wholly or partially dismantled, inoperative or abandoned, whether attended or not, for a period of time in excess of thirty days upon any private property and/or upon any street, alley, highway, thoroughfare, or other public property within the city unless the same is completely enclosed within a building, or shielded from sight with a fence, or unless it is in connection with a business enterprise properly operated in the appropriate business zone pursuant to the zoning laws of the city.
 
Solicitation: It is unlawful for any solicitor or canvasser as defined in Section 5.28.020 of City Code to engage in such business within the corporate limits of the city without first obtaining a permit and license therefor in compliance with the provisions of Chapter 5.28 of City Code.
 
Weeds/Vegetation: The owner, agent, or occupant of any lot or piece of land within the city is required to keep cut or destroy all noxious weeds growing on such lot or piece of land and in the alley abutting upon such lot or piece of land.  Destruction by city, assessment of cost, and penalties will be carried out as directed by City Code, Chapter 8.12.
